Women and Children's Rights Workshop ahead of 16 Day Campaign

On 12 November 2010, the Centre partnered with students at the University of Swaziland to host a workshop on the rights of women and children in Swaziland, ahead of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence Campaign. In attendance were over 100 students, mainly law students.

The focus of the workshop was two-pronged:

1. It sought to look closely at the current status of women's rights in Swaziland, with a particular focus on torture.

2. It also sought to zone in on the current social ills affecting the full enjoyment of fundamental rights by children, especially in light of the 71 Concluding Recommendations made by the Committee under the Convention on the Rights of the Child when Swaziland last reported in 2006.

Research was carried out by students who also presented on the day. The whole workshop was a collaborative effort between the Centre and the UNISWA Students' Law Society.
